Geocaching

We decided to head out and do some geocaching in our local forest. Basically you take your gps and go on a treasure (junk) hunt. Josh and Brooke absolutely love it. They take a bag of trinkets to trade with whatever may be in the caches we find. It is a really great activity for the kids and we always seem to find new and interesting places to explore. The first one we found today was burned up in a major forest fire last summer. All the contents had been melted but the cache was still in its location. Our reason for heading to this cache was to explore the lava tube cave near by. It was a great little cave to test out our spelunking skills. It was called Skylight Cave as there are two holes in the roof of the cave that act as skylights.

This is one of the skylights to the cave below.

Our second cache for the morning took us up on top of 4 Mile Butte. Fantastic views but today was a little cloudy so we really could not see the local mountains. This cache was a little harder to find but was filled with some great toys for the kids to trade. Josh traded for a yo-yo and Brooke traded for a Dora Ring.
