Dee Wright

The Dee Wright Observatory is a stone memorial to the famed architect Dee Wright. It is located in the middle of a massive lava flow and offers panoramic views of the Cascade Mountain Range, as far north as Mt. Hood. It was a spontaneous picnic dinner trip that took us up to the observatory. We'd hoped to have a picnic outside but the chilly winds forced us in the car for the good eats. We had a blast playing for a short time in the wind and taking in the views.

At the top is a "Peak Finder" that gives the names and elevations of all the surrounding peaks.
Josh could not get enough time out on the rocks. The cold wind didn't bother him a bit. On our way back we stopped at this little lake called Lava Camp Lake. It is a really cool lake tucked away in the trees. We took the short hiking trail around the lake with all the kiddos.
