Benson Lake

The much anticipated "boys only" backpack trip finally became a reality this past weekend. Josh and I had planned a short backpack trip up to a group of small lakes. When we arrived the 1.5 mile gravel road up to the trail head was closed. We decided to hike the road anyway and stay at a closer lake named Benson Lake. I think our total round trip mileage was 6 miles. We had a fantastic time together and Josh was an amazing hiker. Grandpa Liddell came for the adventure and we were really glad that he did. Thanks Grandpa for all the photos!

Once Josh got out the pocket knife he was on "cloud nine" and didn't want to put it down....he didn't.
Josh chose our delicious and nutritious breakfast of oatmeal and pop tarts.

Dinner was also selected by Josh and it consisted of freeze dried Lasagna with Meat Sauce. I think if we would have hiked a little longer the meal would have been even better. Grandpa brought us a surprise dessert of a freeze dried ice cream sandwich.
And of course you're not camping if you don't bring along a "Jiffy Pop". Josh took the bag of popcorn to bed with him and finished it off in his sleeping bag. He was one happy camper.

We gave the fishing thing a go but without any luck. It was sure a pretty place to fish...just no fish.
